What are the three types of burial?

  • In-Ground Burial. An in-ground burial is the type of burial that most people think of when the topic of funerals and burials come up.

  • Mausoleum. A public mausoleum is an above ground structure where people can place caskets containing their deceased loved ones.

  • Green Burial.

Can you be buried without a casket?

Yes. No state law requires the use of a casket for burial. A person can be directly interred in the earth, in a shroud, or in a vault without a casket.

Why are caskets locked before burial?

Caskets are sealed for burial after all body preparations and ceremonies. Sealing the casket protects the body from air, moisture, and other elements that might speed up decay.

What is the biggest expense of a funeral?

Casket. A casket is often the most expensive item that factors into the average funeral cost. Caskets vary widely in style, material, design, and price. An average casket costs between $2,000-$5,000 and is typically either metal or a cheaper wood, but some caskets can sell for as much as $10,000 or more.

Is it cheaper to have a funeral at a church?

Instead of having the funeral home perform all aspect of the funeral and service, consider having a church service. Most churches do not charge for funerals. Although, it is customary to make a donation.

What is appropriate to pay a pastor for a funeral?

A common question that many families ask when planning funerals is: what type of honorarium should we give our pastor? In the markets that we serve the typical clergy honorarium that we see most often is $150. Again this figure can sometimes be more and sometimes be less.
